🌿 Spiritually Exhausted: When Toxic Love Depletes Your Soul

Are you feeling emotionally neglected, disregarded, disrespected, and diminished by those closest to you—the very ones who are supposed to love and cherish you?

If so, you are not alone.

So many of us unintentionally place the responsibility for our emotional well-being on the shoulders of others who haven’t even figured it out for themselves. We look to them for validation, consistency, and care—hoping they will fill a space they were never equipped to carry.

Empathy goes a long way, but it’s important to remember that not everyone possesses that characteristic. Some people simply lack the emotional capacity or the willingness to care for others as they should.

When we lose sight of who should truly have center stage in our hearts, we begin to drift. Replacing that sacred space with imperfect humans will always lead to disappointment.

“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in You.” — Isaiah 26:3

True inner peace begins and ends with our relationship with God through Christ—by keeping our eyes on Him and placing our expectations in Him alone.

⚔️ Understanding the Unseen Battle

During my long, dark journey before giving my life fully to Christ, I didn’t understand that most of my battle wasn’t with people—but with what was happening in the unseen realm.

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”

What does that really mean?

It means there is an unseen enemy—one we cannot see with the natural eye, yet one who influences hearts, minds, and behaviors.

Once I understood this, it changed the way I fought my battles.

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy…” — John 10:10

Not every conflict is in the flesh or centered around personality differences. There is often a deeper spiritual layer at work, seeking to steal your peace, drain your strength, and confuse your mind.

🕊️ A Shift in Awareness

We are all spiritual beings influenced by one of two spirits—the Spirit of God or the spirit of the enemy.

Accepting that truth required me to examine not only others' behaviors, but also my own heart.

“Search me, O God, and know my heart… test me and know my anxious thoughts.” — Psalm 139:23

When I finally began spending intentional time alone with God—seeking His Spirit and His truth—I realized something powerful:

I had a choice.

A choice not to let negative emotions consume me.

A choice not to allow others to dictate my peace.

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” — Romans 12:2

That realization didn’t remove the pain—but it gave me a new way to respond to it.

⚠️ Recognizing the Enemy’s Tactics

The enemy will do anything to create chaos within your heart and mind.

That’s why Scripture reminds us:

“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith.” — 1 Peter 5:8–9

And often—this is the hard part to accept—the enemy uses those closest to us.

While we may see the person standing before us, it’s crucial to learn to separate the individual from the spirit influencing them.

This doesn’t excuse harmful or toxic behavior.

But it does change how you fight the battle.

When you begin to see through a spiritual lens, you stop internalizing everything—and start protecting your peace with wisdom and discernment.

🌿 Fighting for Your Peace Differently

I encourage you to meditate on Ephesians 6:12 and ask God for discernment.

Ask Him to open your eyes—to reveal where your true battle lies.

"If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” — James 1:5

This understanding won’t exempt you from hardship, nor will it ease the pain caused by others.

But it will empower you to fight differently—

with spiritual awareness,

with divine strength,

and with peace that isn’t easily shaken.

“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” — Exodus 14:14

You Are Not Alone

If you are feeling spiritually exhausted today, I want you to remember this:

You are not fighting alone.

God sees you.

He knows your pain.

And He is standing with you—right where you are.

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18

He is ready to strengthen you, heal you, and restore your peace.

Right here…N The Midst Of it all. 🌿
